Fencing Contractors in Perth

Colorbond is the most common boundary fence on Perth blocks, and aluminium slat and glass pool fencing are popular at the front of the house and around pools. Older suburbs still have plenty of fibre cement fences, and several fencers below can remove asbestos fencing before the new panels go in. Sandy soil and coastal wind both play a part in how posts are set.

Most boundary fences are shared, so the cost is usually split with the neighbour. The WA Government guide to dividing fences says fence height limits and encroachments are set by local councils in most instances. Our listed fencing contractors cover the Perth metro area, north and south of the river. Get your neighbour on board before you book a start date.

Sharing a Fence with Your Neighbour

Under the Dividing Fences Act 1961, an agreement between neighbours takes priority over the Act itself. Where a dividing fence needs repairs, the owners on each side are generally liable for equal shares of the cost. Any notice to a neighbour must be in writing and signed, then delivered in person or by registered post.

For repairs, if the neighbour does not object in writing within 14 days, the work may go ahead. When owners cannot agree on whether a fence is needed or what kind to build, either one can apply to the Magistrates Court within 21 days of receiving the notice. A written quote from your fencer makes that conversation much easier.

Pool Fences and Front Fences

Pool fencing has its own rules. The WA Government says pools and spas with water more than 30cm deep need a safety barrier, and local governments inspect barriers with no more than four years between checks. Gates are the most common access point in child drowning incidents, so ask about latches and hinges as well as the panels.

Front fences are where council rules most often come in, especially on height and how solid the fence can be. Call your local council or check its website before you choose a design, and ask the fencer whether the quote includes removal and disposal of the old fence.
